User Selection
The User Selection settings determine how you can select items on the map and filter the rest of your Power BI report page.
Max Selections
Selecting large numbers of items can cause Power BI to pause while it applies the filter. The Max Selections settings will limit the number of items that can be selected to ensure that Power BI remains responsive. However, if you have a requirement to enable the selection of larger numbers of items, and are happy to wait for Power BI to make the selections, then you can increase this number accordingly.
Background Click Clears Selection
When enabled, clicking on the map background where there is not a data items on the map, will clear the current selections.
Select Intersecting Items
When enabled, when you select an item on the map that overlaps other items, all the joining items will be selected.
Select Buffer
This allows you to define a radius in meters beyond the current shape, when selecting. For example if enter 100, and click on a circle, all items within 100 meters of that circle will be selected.
Select Mode
Determines how items are selected when using area-based selection tools (such as lasso or radius selection) with the Select Buffer.
-
Fully Contain - Only selects items that are completely within the selection area plus buffer distance. The entire item must be contained within the selection boundary.
-
Intersect - Selects any items that touch or overlap with the selection area plus buffer distance. Items only need to partially overlap with the selection boundary to be selected.
Circle Select
Enables the control to be displayed. Users can then use this to drag a circle on the map. All items within the circle are then selected. The radius of the circle is shown using the selected units:
The color of the circle can be specified using the fill and outline options:
Lasso
Displays the control. Users can draw an area on the map. All items within the area are selected.
The Lasso Mode option determines whether items are included that intersect the line, or only those entirely contained within.
Selecting all items within a polygon
As well as using the "Select Intersecting Items" option to enable selecting intersecting data items, it is also possible to allow polygons within a GeoJSON / shape file reference layer to be used to select items.
Enable the "Use Polygons for Selection" in the configuration section of the reference layer to enable this option.
